More than two thousand years ago, God, through Jesus Christ asked a question that transformed the world forever.  In Matthew 16:13 Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?”  Finally, Peter boldly proclaimed the correct answer, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”  Jesus replied in verse 18 “…upon this rock I will build my congregation (church) and the powers of hell will not conquer it.”  (International Standard Version)

FreeWay’s belief system hinges on this divine truth.  God, desired to have fellowship with us so he created man in his own image. Man failed to obey God’s commands and God sent his son Jesus to die and pay for man’s wrongdoing (John 3:16) and display His grace (Romans 5:8). We believe that the eternal, triune God or the God that has existed perpetually as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 3:16), sent Jesus to make it possible for us to live in right standing with God.

In order to maintain fellowship with man, God inspired men to write the book called the Bible or Holy Scriptures.  Additionally, this book would personify God the Son, or Jesus.”  The Bible says in John 1:14 “…and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”  The Bible also trains us in righteousness, (2 Tim. 3:16) enabling us to thrive in “restored relationship” with Him (2 Corinthians 5:19).

We believe there are characteristics that should mark or identify a “Christ follower” or Christian.

You will be able to “see” the transformation in us as we (2 Corinthians 5:1) put to death our old life and walk in new life by faith in God (Galatians 2:20). Since we have received the gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8) through repentance, (1 John 1:9) we practice certain sacraments that indicate our “changed life,” such as baptism by immersion (Matthew 28:19) and communion (commemoration of the Lord’s supper via symbolic use of bread and juice of the vine) (1 Corinthians 11:24,25).

While these are basic applications of our faith (Hebrews 6:1), there is a life change that is manifested by distinct changes in our conduct.  We purpose in our heart to live a “spirit filled life (Romans 8:2).” This is derived from the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) which empowers us to exhibit the gifts and fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11). We are compelled to share with others our new life (James 5:20) and the miracles we have witnessed, such as divine healing (James 5:14-16) and advance the kingdom of God through generous contributions to our local church and other ministries (Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7).

Finally, we believe that every person on earth has eternal life and they will spend it either in paradise (John 14:1-3, Revelation 7:15-17) or torment (Revelation 20:10, 15). God will return to earth and there will be a time of final judgment (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17, 2 Corinthians 5:10). Until that time, we believe it is imperative that Christians become an active member of a local church (Acts 16:5) and serve one another in love in view of Christ’s second coming (Hebrews 10:25)  These are the primary beliefs we promote at FreeWay Church; all for the glory and honor of God!!
